A 16-year-girl was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted in a Maruti Omni van by three youths in North Delhi’s Sabzi Mandi area.

The incident occurred on June 27 while the victim, a Class X student in a government school, was returning home from a coaching institute. The victim has alleged that the accused stubbed her with cigarettes when she tried to resist.

On the basis of the complaint lodged at the Sabzi Mandi police station on Sunday, a case of rape and kidnapping was registered against the three. A medical examination at a hospital nearby confirmed rape.

The police have arrested one of the accused, identified as Nitin (23), who is reportedly the brother of one of the victim’s friends. The victim’s claims about the accused videographing the incident is being probed.

“The victim, in her complaint, stated that she was returning home from her coaching institute around 5 pm on June 27 when she was stopped by three men in a white Omni. The men dragged her in and took turns at raping her. The victim claimed that while two men raped her, the third filmed the incident,” said a senior police officer investigating the incident.

According to police, Nitin had first offered to drop the victim home. “She agreed because she knew him. However, she peeped inside the car and she saw two other persons. When she refused to enter, the three pulled her in and drove away. Later, they parked the vehicle at an isolated place and took turns to rape her. One of them filmed the incident on his mobile phone. Later, around 11 pm, they dropped her near Peeragarhi and gave her some money to take an autorickshaw home,” said the officer.

Police said that after returning, the girl remained mum because she was too scared to tell anybody about the incident. It was only on Sunday morning that she mustered the courage to narrate the incident to her sister, who — in turn — told her parents.

The police arrested Nitin, who denied allegations of having made a video of the assault. “We haven’t found anything in his mobile phone. We are on the lookout for the other two accused. Their arrests will help establish the allegations,” the officer said.
